Introduction

Endoscopy is the use of an instrument (i. e., the endoscope) to look into a cavity or orifice. Its main value to veterinary gastroenterology consists of allowing the collection of tissue samples without surgery, although observation of morphological changes of the mucosal surface or removal of foreign bodies is also useful. Gastroduodenoscopy is the most important flexible endoscopy technique, although colonoileoscopy can also be important.
