MANAGEMENT OF CHLAMYDIAL DISEASE IN FREE-RANGING KOALA POPULATIONS

Chlamydial disease can significantly affect population viability through illness and premature death, and/or reproductive loss. In such circumstances, population­wide treatment, including the euthanasia of severely affected individuals, can substantially improve popula­tion viability (Wilson et al. 2015; Hanger et al. 2017; Beyer et al. 2018). The use of a Chlamydia vaccine in free-rang­ing koala populations and further detail on chlamydial disease are presented in Chapter 35.
