Quality ofLife

Given the paucity of literature pertaining to BE no firm prognostic factors are available, and each case needs to be assessed individually. The presence of comorbid diseases such as congestive heart failure, chronic renal failure, diabetes mellitus, and hyperadrenocorticism generally complicate the management of BE, and if present need to be discussed with the owners, in order to align their expectations with a realistic outcome in such cases.

In addition, recurrent pneumonia, development of pulmonary abscesses, worsening dyspnea, or coughing in spite of treatment would be considered negative prognostic factors. Most importantly, the patient's quality of life should be assessed, and euthanasia should only be considered when this has deteriorated, regardless ofthe radiographic or bronchoscopy findings.
