Ampulla of the Ductus Deferens

The ampulla is an enlargement of the ductus deferens, although it is due to an increase in thickness of the wall rather than a dilation of the lumen of the ductus. The ampulla is absent in the pig and the cat.

Horse (Figure 15.1): The ampulla is relatively larger in this species (15 cm long) than in the others.

Ox (Figure 15.4): The ampulla is smaller than in the horse.

Dog (Figure 15.9): There is a poorly developed ampulla in the dog; it is largely cov­ered by the prostate gland.
