Serous Fluids

serous fluids in the body cavities include peritoneal, pleural, and pericardial fluid. Normally, these fluids are present as a thin film that reduces friction between apposed surfaces. Inflammation or infection of the serous membranes causes increased production of serous fluids. Examples are pleuritis (pleurisy), peritonitis, and pericarditis.
