The Accessory Glands
This is the collective name for a number of glands associated with the male reproductive tract. The secretion of these glands is added to the semen at ejaculation, although their significance is not clear since the components of the secretion vary between species. In the immature or castrated male, the accessory glands are small.
The accessory glands comprise the single midline prostate gland, the paired vesicular glands, the single ampulla of the ductus deferens and the paired bulbourethral glands.
