Australian Veterinary Emergency Plan (AUSVETPLAN)
AUSVETPLAN is the national emergency planning framework that contains a set of manuals setting out the specific roles, responsibilities and policies to be followed by all agencies in an EAD response.
AHA manages the process of review, approval and publication of these manuals on behalf of governments and relevant industries. AUSVETPLANs specific to wildlife diseases include: the Lyssavirus Disease Strategy; the Wild Animal Response Strategy; the Zoo Enterprise Manual; and the Hendra Virus Response Strategy (AHA 2014, 2021a, 2021b, 2023). AUSVETPLAN and Emergency animal diseases: Afield guide for Australian veterinarians (Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and CSIRO 2019) are great resources and should be the first point of call for practitioners seeking information on EADs. The WHA website provides additional information on EADs of relevance to free-ranging Australian mammals, both feral and native.4.4
