Australia's EAD Preparedness Program

The DAFF is the lead Australian Government agency for biosecurity emergencies. Australia’s emergency management agencies, animal health authorities and human health authorities are jointly responsible for maintaining EAD plans including emergency wildlife disease support plans, and preparedness activities such as development and maintenance of policies, procedures and response systems, training programs for personnel and delivery of exercises.

AHA provides an important service to Australian governments by coordinating aspects of Australia’s EAD Preparedness Program including maintenance of the AUSVETPLAN (below). The main objective of the program is to ensure that Australia is well prepared to manage and respond to an EAD outbreak. When outbreaks occur, the EAD Preparedness Program enables Australia to mount a rapid and effective response with minimal disruption to the affected industries and to limit the environmental impact.
