End ofLife

Canine cognitive dysfunction is not itself a terminal disease, but it will progress and eventually compromise quality of life for both the pet and the owner to such a point that euthanasia is the best option for all parties involved. Patients with CCD are generally euthanized due to concerns over quality of life. The CADES or CCDR questionnaire scales can provide an objective measure to help clients decide not only when to initiate treatment, but to point out when there has been significant decline and aid in the decision to euthanize.
