Introduction
Hyperthyroidism in geriatric cats is a lifethreatening disease requiring prompt veterinary attention. Euthyroidism can be achieved by: pharmacological therapy, nutritional therapy, thyroidectomy, or radioiodine therapy. All four options have advantages and disadvantages and which treatment is selected depends on a number of factors including: concurrent disease, age of the cat, cost, surgical skill, availability of nuclear medicine facilities, and the owner's informed opinion.
