Problem Solving
The process of diagnostic investigation for neonates is similar to that for adults. A problem list is developed at the conclusion of the physical examination. Differential diagnoses for each problem are considered, and the likelihood of differentials is ranked according to the history, signalment, and physical findings. This process progresses to a tentative diagnosis and development of diagnostic and treatment plans. Details regarding the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of common neonatal diseases are presented in Chapter 20.
