Quality ofLife

It is uncommon that urinary tract infection, in the absence of an underlying morbidity, would substantially affect the quality of life of dogs and cats or be a reason for euthanasia, if appropriately treated.

Treatment of recurrent UTI does require owner compliance, as prolonged treatment and monitoring are required. If severe clinical signs persist, despite appropriate use of antibiotics and good owner compliance, other comorbidities are likely to be present and should be looked for (e.g., polypoid cystitis and proliferative urethritis).
