The Order Peramelemorphia contains 21 extant species of bandicoots and the greater bilby (Macrotis lagotis).

The anatomy, medicine and pathol­ogy of bandicoots and the bilby are covered comprehen­sively in Lynch (2008), Ladds (2009) and Vogelnest and Allan (2015); this chapter should be read alongside these texts and other chapters in this volume.
