EXTRACELLULAR ENVIRONMENT TO THE CNS

The extracellular environment surrounding the central ner­vous system plays a crucial role in maintaining its function. It includes cerebrospinal fluid, which provides cushion and support, and the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which regu­lates the passage of substances between the bloodstream and the brain. Any disruption to this environment can impact the overall functioning of CNS.
