INTRODUCTION

The nervous system is the body’s communication network, consisting of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (nerves outside the brain and spinal cord).

It controls everything from basic functions like breathing to complex processes like decision-making and memory. It is a highly intricate network of neurons, the specialized cells that coordinate a complex interplay of functions within the organism. The nervous system is not just mere reflex responses; it dynamically processes sensory information to generate adaptive behaviour and form lasting memories. This remarkably sophisticated information processing allows organisms to react to their environment and also to learn from experiences, in a way, to adjust their future responses accordingly.
