Syndesmology (arthrology) is the study of the articulations(unions) between bones, which are commonly called joints.

Joints may be classified by a variety of schemes, usually by that of anatomy or degree of movement. The tissue that unites the bones of a joint is gener­ally fibrous tissue or cartilage. The structure and arrangement of these tissues is specialized for the joint’s specific task.
