The caudal vena cava is the main drainage channel for venous blood from the abdomen and pelvis to the heart.
There are a number of tributaries arising from the abdominal body wall and from the kidneys and gonads. The portal system conveys venous blood from the stomach, intestines, pancreas and spleen to the liver from which the blood enters the caudal vena cava for passage to the heart.
