The Uterine Tube, also called the Fallopian Tube or the Oviduct (Figure 13.2)
The infundibulum is the funnel-shaped ovarian end of the uterine tube; it contains fringe-like fimbriae that conduct the ovulated oocytes into the uterine tube. The uterine tube is about the same length in the horse, ox and pig (20-25 cm). In the dog it is very short (about 6 cm). However, tubal transit is quickest in the pig (48 hours) and slowest in the dog (4-5 days).
In the ox and pig the cornual end of the uterine tube arises from the gradually tapering uterine cornu. In the dog and cat the uterine tube arises more abruptly from the rounded end of the cornu, and in the horse it arises on a small papilla at the rounded end of the cornu.
