Lymphangioma in the Horse

Johanna L. Watson • Monica Aleman

Lymphangioma is a rare tumor in horses that originates from lymphatic vessels. Morphologically, lymphangiomas are classified into three types: simplex or capillary, cavernous, and cystic.38 This tumor may involve cutaneous tissues of the mammary gland, thigh and inguinal regions, pleural cavity, and intestines and has only been observed in young horses.39-41 Clinical signs vary depending on tumor location. At diagnosis, these tumors were extensive; surgical removal was not attempted, and all horses were reportedly euthanized.
