The true incidence of exocrine pancreatic disease in dogs and cats is unknown.

However, one study of necropsy findings reported that 1.7% of 9,342 canine pancreata and 1.3% of 6,504 feline pancreata showed significant pathological lesions at necropsy.9 Roughly 50% of these lesions were classified as pancreatitis in both species, making pancreatitis the most common exocrine pancreatic disease in both dogs and cats.
