Masticatory Muscles
The masticatory muscles are massive. The temporalis and masseter prevent direct access to the lateral plate of the frontal and parietal bones and the ramus of the mandible. The boundary between these muscles is provided by the zygomatic arch, which is relatively vulnerable to traumatic separation at the oblique suture between the zygomatic and temporal bones (see Fig. 2.34).
