» Lymphatic System

Little information about the lymphatics of the llama or alpaca is available in the literature. The distribution of the lymph nodes is reported to be similar to that of cattle and sheep. Lymph nodes are small and not readily palpable in a normal adult llama or alpaca but may be palpable in a neonate or an emaciated animal. Similar to the horse, multiple lymph nodes may be observed rather than a single node. The antimesenteric border of the large intestine has aggregations of lymphoid tissue. Mediastinal and mesenteric lymph nodes are present but small.
