Technique

Fine-needle aspiration should be performed under sonogra­phic guidance. In order to avoid excessive blood contamination of FNA specimens from organs with a rich blood supply (e. g., spleen or liver), the duration of aspiration should be kept as short as possible. The operator should only aspirate during brisk advancement of the needle into the liver for approximately one second. Alternatively, a needle can be advanced into the liver
